Meet the Divine Doves of SugarLand Farm Family
Meet Marilea
Marilea’s journey from city life to becoming a true “country girl” began at the age of 13 when her parents moved the family to a 2 1/4-acre property in the countryside. There, she discovered her love for animals as they built fences, tended the land, and raised horses, goats, rabbits, ducks, and chickens. “Some of the most meaningful times of my life were spent in the country,” she recalls. Involved in 4H for several years, Marilea developed a passion for arts, crafts, and animal husbandry, (she even raised a steer one year!)
Entrepreneurship runs in Marilea’s family, and she always dreamed of being her own boss. After trying her hand at various business ventures, fate intervened when she met Randy in October 2023. They quickly discovered a shared dream of starting a dove release business, a concept that was new to Marilea but one that captivated her curiosity. “Each day that passes I have to pinch myself and ask, ‘Is this for real?’” she says with a smile.
By November 2023, with the guidance of a mentor from White Dove Release in Orange County, Marilea and Randy had purchased 32 pairs of breeding doves and started building their first lofts. Since then, they have raised over 50 flyers, which they now use in various ceremonies and services. Marilea feels incredibly blessed to be living out what she believes is God’s plan for her, and she looks forward to helping others create unforgettable moments with their dove release services.
Meet Randy
When his mother passed away in 2017, Randy was moved by the beauty and peace of a white dove release at her funeral. “It provided an experience that everyone in attendance would remember and cherish,” he recalls. This moment planted a seed in Randy’s heart, inspiring him to offer the same profound experience to others.
In 2021, after the loss of his father, Randy’s desire to start his own dove release business grew stronger. However, balancing a full-time job made it difficult to pursue this passion alone. He reached out to friends and family for support, but no one shared his vision… until he met Marilea in October 2023.
With Marilea’s background in animal care, Randy knew they were on the path to something extraordinary. “In my travels, I started seeing majestic white doves flying overhead against the blue sky—a truly humbling experience,” Randy says, believing it was a sign from his parents urging him forward.
Things moved quickly as they purchased 32 pairs of doves and set up their first loft. As they trained the doves, people would stop to watch, often expressing how much the releases meant to them. One person even said, “I needed this!” which reaffirmed Randy’s passion for touching hearts and souls through these awe-inspiring moments.
Randy credits Marilea’s passion, insight, and hard work for making Divine Doves of SugarLand Farm a reality. He feels truly blessed, knowing that God has brought them together to fulfill this divine purpose.

Meet Roxie (AKA “Dawg”)
The beloved rescue dog of SugarLand Farm, Roxie joined the family as a 3-month-old puppy and has been growing into her role as the guardian of the dove flock ever since.
A spirited mix of Australian Shepherd and German Shepherd, Roxie brings together the best traits of both breeds: loyalty, intelligence, and a strong protective instinct. These attributes make her an ideal protector, ensuring the doves are safe and sound under her watchful eye.
Whether she’s patrolling the farm or enjoying Marilea’s expert ear-scratches, Roxie is a cherished member of the Divine Doves family.
Meet George & Gracie
Born on March 25 at SugarLand Farm, doves George and Gracie were sadly abandoned by their bird parents at a young age. Knowing it was the only right thing to do, Marilea and Randy took them in, lovingly hand-feeding and caring for them, raising them to adulthood.
Through their nurturing, George and Gracie have flourished and now hold the honorary titles of Host and Hostess of SugarLand Farm. Their warm, welcoming presence greets visitors to the farm, embodying the love and care that defines the Divine Doves family.

The Story of SugarLand Farm
SugarLand Farm was named in honor of Randy’s beloved parents, Vernon and Pat, who were affectionately known by their grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Grandma and Grandpa Sugar. Their grandparent names were inspired by Pat, who always asked the little ones to “give me some sugar” — her sweet way of asking for kisses. After their passing, Randy dedicated the farm as SugarLand Farm, a tribute to the love and joy that Pat and Vernon brought to their family.
A third-generation farm, SugarLand’s roots run deep. Randy’s grandfather began farming with a simple horse and plow, growing corn and cotton on the land. Today, SugarLand Farm is not only the home of Divine Doves but also Lavender Fresh Farm. Randy, a dedicated beekeeper like his uncle, planted lavender to nourish the bees, which eventually blossomed into Lavender Fresh Farm. His son Michael also contributes to the farm’s legacy by offering a bee removal service.
The idea for Divine Doves was born when Randy shared his dream of a dove release business with Marilea. With their combined passion and dedication, Divine Doves of SugarLand Farm was established, providing beautiful dove releases for all occasions. To Randy, SugarLand Farm is much more than a piece of land — it’s a little piece of heaven, rich with family history and filled with love.
